Our Sponsored Prizes

H G Powell entered the NWC Open Poetry Competition regularly in the 1990s, and several of his poems were  included in the Anthologies produced each year.

Mr Powell's children have kindly sponsored a prize in his memory. The winner of this prize will be a poem on the theme of The Family.

John Coleridge is the author of 3 collections of poems, which have been published by Meniscus.

John was the Open Poetry Competition adjudicator in 2003, and suggested sponsoring a prize for a humorous poem, to lift the spirits of subsequent  adjudicators.

The John Lewis Group have kindly sponsored a token as a prize for a Minimalist poem. Minimalist is a short poem on any theme.  It is up to the adjudicator to decide which is the best short poem.

The 2010 winner had just  23 words arranged in 8 lines. Previous winners have had  more words and more lines, but all packed a punch. In this category, 'less is more'.
